Kodak bolsters inkjet capabilities through acquisition of Graphic Systems Services Inc.

In a strategic move to enhance its inkjet capabilities, Kodak has recently completed the acquisition of Graphic Systems Services Inc. (GSS), a renowned provider of web inkjet press transport systems and other print-related components and engineering services. This acquisition reinforces Kodak's commitment to digital print technology, granting the company greater control over its inkjet press supply chain and augmenting its engineering expertise. By expanding its portfolio of inkjet presses, Kodak aims to meet the growing demand for advanced printing solutions.

A notable highlight from Kodak's inkjet innovation is the Kodak Prosper Ultra 520 Press, which was unveiled at the prestigious Hunkeler Innovationdays print industry event.

According to Kodak, powered by its state-of-the-art Ultrastream continuous inkjet writing system, the Press delivers unparalleled image quality with a resolution comparable to 200 lines per inch (lpi) at impressive production speeds of 152 meters per minute (mpm).

GSS has long been a trusted partner of Kodak, providing cutting-edge transport systems for the highly acclaimed Kodak Prosper Press line, including the Kodak Prosper Ultra 520 Press and Kodak Prosper 7000 Turbo Press. Situated in Springboro, Ohio, GSS conveniently operates in close proximity to Kodak's inkjet design and manufacturing hub in Dayton, Ohio.

Jim Continenza, Kodak’s Executive Chairman and CEO explained, “Having an in-house source of transport systems and additional expertise from an industry leader like GSS will immediately make our inkjet business stronger and more sustainable. As business conditions continue to be challenging, now is the time to control our own destiny and mitigate supply chain risks to ensure reliable delivery of presses to our customers. Looking forward, our ability to leverage GSS’s skills and resources will be extremely valuable as we continue to focus on expanding our inkjet portfolio and providing completely integrated inkjet solutions.”

Dan Green, President and CEO of GSS says, “Over our 20 years of working together, we have developed a very close working relationship with Kodak. Our employees are enthusiastic about Kodak’s decision to acquire GSS. Our portfolio of inkjet transport systems and other components, along with our manufacturing expertise and engineering consulting services, will help Kodak further strengthen their position as a leader in inkjet technology.”

With this strategic acquisition, Kodak strengthens its position in the inkjet market, enabling the company to develop and deliver innovative inkjet solutions with even greater reliability. By expanding its expertise and control over the production process, Kodak is well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of the printing industry and contribute to the advancement of digital printing technologies.
