Gallus, during the inauguration of its new customer experience center in St. Gallen,
Switzerland, has unveiled several innovative advancements in flexo and digital press
technology.
One significant development entails the option to enhance the Gallus ECS 340 flexo press
with a digital printing unit (DPU). This transformative upgrade effectively turns the press into
a Gallus Labelfire 340 hybrid press, obviating the need for an additional platform investment.
By incorporating this feature, clients gain access to the full scope of flexibility and versatility
associated with digital printing, while still benefiting from the reliability and precision intrinsic
to conventional printing and post-processing technologies.
Another noteworthy stride in press innovation is the introduction of the Gallus One inkjet
digital label press with integrated converting capabilities. Originally launched last year, this
core press boasts a 340mm print width and achieves an impressive resolution of 1200 x
1200dpi. Operating at speeds of up to 70m/min, it can proficiently produce CMYK prints.
Notably, white ink can also be applied at 70m/min with 85% opacity. The integration of inline
converting options—such as flexo, semi-rotary die-cutting, and vision inspection—enables
Gallus to further amplify its overall cost of ownership (TCO) advantage within the label
production landscape.
Dario Urbinati, CEO, of Gallus Group, comments, “We are committed to being in touch with
the market and forecasting, and then responding to, likely trends that could impact our
customers and brands. As a result, Gallus and Heidelberg are committed to leading the new
digital transformation – driving ‘smart, connected printing’ to unlock revolutionary levels of
production automation and manufacturing efficiencies. Key to solving the labor issues of
today, this will enable customers to reduce costs and increase both profitability and
sustainability.”
Heidelberg, of which Gallus is a member, has also unveiled a significant development—the
official launch of the Heidelberg Customer Portal (HCP). This revolutionary platform is
designed to automate nearly every interaction point with customers. Reflecting Heidelberg's
commitment to the labels and packaging sector, which now constitutes 50% of the group's
total sales, the HCP aims to propel digital transformation within the realm of labels and
packaging. This initiative addresses ongoing challenges like labor shortages and cost
escalation. Future iterations of the HCP are projected to leverage artificial intelligence (AI)
for predictive capabilities, offering recommendations to enhance productivity, streamline
maintenance, and amplify profitability. Heidelberg anticipates that the HCP could save
customers an average of up to 35% in terms of both time and monetary expenditure, based
on the company's assessments.
