NEW ON THE BLOCK
Kodak unveils breakthrough Inkjet Enhancements with ‘Ektacolor’ Inks and ‘Optimax’ Primers for High-Speed Printing

Kodak has unveiled advanced water-based ink and primer products optimized for its highspeed continuous inkjet technologies, Kodak Stream, and Kodak Ultrastream Technology. Introducing Kodak Ektacolor Inks and Kodak Optimax Primers as part of their new brand launch, Kodak emphasizes its rich heritage in advanced materials and chemicals.

Ektacolor Inks, designed for Stream Inkjet Technology, including systems like Kodak Prosper 7000 Turbo Press and Prosper Imprinting Systems, deliver vibrant, clear prints at unmatched speeds in the commercial inkjet market. These inks are available for both pigment and dye-based applications, providing maximum versatility for customers. Manufactured using Kodak's proprietary pigment micro-milling process, Ektacolor Inks feature ultra-fine nanoparticle pigments, ensuring easy jetting, reduced light scatter, ultrathin dried ink layers, and an expanded color gamut. Moreover, these inks contain lower levels of humectants, allowing for faster drying even on challenging substrates, without the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), promoting sustainability and improving work environments for operators.

Jim Continenza, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Kodak comments, “With over 55 years of experience under our belt, no one knows inkjet better than Kodak. We leverage this deep expertise to create the inks and primers that are used in our KODAK Stream and Ultrastream Inkjet Technology product lines. The introduction of Kodachorme and Ektacolor Inks and Optimax Primers is just one example of the innovation and competitive differentiator that we continue to deliver to customers.”

In parallel, Kodak has introduced a range of Kodak Optimax Primers, offering printers an alternative to costly inkjet-treated papers and specialty substrates. These primers enhance ink receptivity, adhesion, rub resistance, and overall image quality across diverse materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, film, and metalized substrates. Optimax Primers not only improve print quality but also contribute to the recyclability of printed products by enhancing deinkability.

Kodak's primer offerings include Optimax Enhanced Primer for coated papers and Optomax Standard Primer for uncoated papers. For packaging applications, Optimax Packaging Primers cater to both uncoated and coated corrugated and folding carton packaging, as well as non-absorbent substrates like plastic and film. These primers reduce dependence on expensive specialty substrates, ensuring durable and vivid print applications. With these innovations, Kodak continues to advance the inkjet printing industry with superior technology and sustainability in mind.

“Along with our high-speed continuous inkjet technologies, these inks and primers create a complete inkjet ecosystem with perfectly matched components, all developed and manufactured in-house by Kodak. This helps printers produce a huge variety of applications efficiently, productively and profitably,” adds Continenza.
